Design Process

The Welling design process includes three stages: Planning, Design and Production. Discover how we can make your dreams come true!

Planning Stage

Kickoff Meeting

You come to our showroom, meet your designer, and tell us about your project.  If you are looking for guidance in developing your ideas, we’ll help you create and share a houzz ideabook which will help us better understand your preferences, and we’ll share resources you can use to explore design options.  You’ll get to know us, see our work, and become familiar with our processes.

Dream Session

Either at our showroom, or in your home (we charge $100 for a site visit, and the money goes towards the cost of your final project), we’ll meet to collect all the information we need to design your dream project.  We’ll take into consideration the following details:

    • Design preferences: We’ll ask you to create a houzz ideabook and share it with us, to find photographs of styles, colors, and layouts you like.  Together, we’ll discuss the feel you want your project to give to your home.  If appropriate, you may create an ideabook with photos of your preferences in advance.
    • Site information:  We’ll collect measurements, and consider impacts of lighting, flow of traffic, and other design considerations on your project.
    • Appliances and fixtures: We’ll work with you to ensure that your appliances fit naturally with the look, feel, and space that you are dreaming of. Also, we can assist you with selection, ordering, delivery, and installation of new appliances and fixtures from our partners.
    • Budget: We’ll discuss the range of your budget, so that we can help you make your dream project reality.
    • Timeline: Together we’ll determine appropriate timeframes for production and installation.

Concept Development

Using all of the information gathered during our Dream Sessions, we’ll work with you to develop design concepts to fulfill your dreams.  After this meeting we will create design drawings to help you visualize the final product of your project.

Design Stage

Drawing Review

We’ll review the drawings that we created during our concept development meeting. We’ll base construction and installation on the drawings you select.

Accompaniments: Finish, solid surfaces, and design elements

We’ll work with you to select wood species, stain color, finish effects, solid surfaces, appliances, fixtures, hardware, and any additional embellishments to make your project uniquely yours.

Bid Review and Contract

We’ll create a bid which reflects construction, delivery, and installation of the design you’ve selected, along with all of the accompaniments.  Once you accept the contract, we’ll begin the production process, and set a date for delivery, installation, and project completion.

Production stage

Site Visits

We’ll collect final measurements, as well as location of plumbing and wiring in your project, and if appropriate, we’ll coordinate any adjustments that need to be made prior to delivery.

Delivery and Installation

Our team will ensure complete delivery and installation of your new cabinetry and countertops, as well as coordinate installation of your new appliances and fixtures.
